Job Duties

  • Oversee and manage reporters
  • Check reporter's scripts to ensure they meet standards
  • Give regular feedback and expert editorial guidance to reporters and producers
  • Facilitate the news gathering process and ensure comprehensive coverage of on-air and online news stories.
  • Generate daily, enterprise and evergreen story ideas
  • Consistently monitor scanners, wires, internet sites and social *** so not miss any critical breaking news
  • Develop and cultivate contacts within the community for news stories
  • Coordinate logistics for field crews for local coverage
  • Make front line editorial decisions on a story-by-story basis
  • Support producers by gathering new and updated information on stories
  • Communicate with newsroom and production staff on the status of coverage and stories
  • Arrange and coordinate news content and interviews for producers/talent
  • Work closely story/sweeps planning and coordination
  • Perform as special show producer as required
  • Conduct investigative research
  • Generate duopoly story ideas

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years' experience as an Assignment Editor, Reporter or Producer
  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications or equivalent work experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a full-time News Editor to join the *** Digital team to edit DC and politics-related text stories for *** News.com and 538. It's a role that requires exceptional communication, attention to detail and grace under pressure.

The ideal candidate will have experience with editing content for a digital publication, with a special interest in Washington-based news, U.S. politics and data journalism.

This editor will work with reporters and producers, guiding stories through every step of the process, from idea generation to reporting, editing and publication, as well as data gathering as needed. You will also assign 538 stories to copy editors and be responsible for our fact-checking and editing process, which includes story editing and copy editing. As needed, you will be a part of and help manage 538 interactive projects and coverage of keystone events, such as 538's election-night live blogs. This editor will also work with *** ' newsgathering operation - including teams at the White House, Capitol Hill, the Justice Department, the Pentagon and the Supreme Court - as well as our legal and standards teams.

We are looking for a thoughtful collaborator and logistical wizard who is eager to work with writers, editors and visual journalists across the newsroom to produce creative, groundbreaking coverage in a fast-paced election environment.

The hours are generally 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, though the hours may shift depending on coverage needs. Team members are expected to work in a hybrid model, based in the *** bureau in DC.

What You Will Do:

  • Assign and edit a mix of short and longer features each month on U.S. politics, elections and other topics as needed.
  • Edit breaking news, features and live blogs, primarily on Washington -- and politics-based news.
  • When necessary, write breaking news stories and live blog posts.

We are looking for a Sports Video Editor. This job will initially focus on a new weekly program we are producing as the Home of the NHL's Seattle Kraken. It will also include our partnerships with the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Reign, and the Olympics, as well as the nightly sportscasts. Qualified candidates must be ready and able to create high quality content to meet sports deadlines.

Responsibilities :

  • Edit a variety of video elements including voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics and teases
  • Collaborate with **** 5's award-winning team of photojournalists and sports journalists to create content for all platforms
  • Operate non-linear edit systems, experience with Edius and Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, After Effects & Photoshop) is a plus
  • Display a professional demeanor and work well/as a team player with news and sports staff
  • Multi-task, handling editing assignments and capturing feeds and FTP material, while constantly monitoring quality control editing to scripts and producer notes
  • Ability to create/edit material for on-air broadcast show and web, while meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
  • Uphold personal integrity, teamwork, accountability, problem solving and a strong work ethic

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years previous experience video editing, knowledge of EDIUS preferred
  • Strong writing skills, both for digital and broadcast platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
  • Fluency in a second language is a plus.

We are offering a competitive pay along with benefits. This position is full-time, hourly, and SAG-AFTRA union. Compensation Range: $21.23 - $26.56 hourly.

MS *** Digital is hiring an Senior Editor to work with both its opinion and blog teams, and MS *** 's broadcast teams. You will have a deep understanding of what drives conversations and a passion for the many ways politics intersect with culture, climate science, the economy and so much more. You will have excellent news judgment, meticulous copy editing skills, a keen understanding of journalistic standards and a track record that proves you can hew to the standards of the *** U News Group. You will be familiar with the MS *** brand, its shows and its on-air hosts.

This is a Monday-Friday 3pm-11pm EST schedule.

Position is based in New York City.

What you will do:

  • Work closely with our opinion and blog editors to edit and produce perspective essays and analysis on politics, breaking news and culture
  • Work with our weekend team to expand MS *** 's digital coverage on Saturdays and Sundays, coordinating both analysis and breaking news coverage as needed
  • Coordinate with Senior MS *** editors and show producers to anticipate big events, maintain a team-wide editorial calendar and coordinate digital coverage plans for both short and longer-term news.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
  • 5-7 years editing in a digital newsroom environment, ideally with opinion journalism experience
  • Must understand how to craft a compelling lead, angle and headline
