Sales Interview Tip of the Day: when logging into your next Zoom interview, always make sure your microphone is on mute. Especially when you’re likely to get frustrated at your computer, and voice those frustrations to yourself with the odd piece of profanity, for your interviewer to overhear. Bet they won’t make that mistake again. What other interview mishaps have you experienced? #interviewtips #recruitment #zoominterviews📷 GIPHY

Por que no los dos? Why not both? I was recently working on a senior admin role for a client of ours in the education sector. Having worked with them before, we knew their business well. The journey. The vision. The people. As soon as we took the brief, I had their perfect candidate in mind - industry experience, career motivators, culture fit. She ticked all the boxes. Before sending her across to the client, we came across a second candidate. She didn't have the ideal industry experience they were after, but after meeting with her - I knew she was worth them considering. She was ambitious. Driven. Hungry. With a growth mindset. Exactly what they looked for in a candidate. They agreed to meet with both. And after first round of interviews the feedback was "We've got a problem. We want both". Two great candidates. A good problem to have. But with only one position on offer, a problem regardless. Whilst the client sat on the decision, we progressed to references. To no surprise, they were both glowing. So we locked in second interviews for both candidates. Fast forward, a day before their second interviews, the client called me. They'd created a second role. Tailor made for the second candidate. Whilst they hadn't planned on onboarding this role for at least another 6-12 months down the track, they saw the potential this candidate had to offer. And she was too good to pass up. No shock, the candidate was stoked to accept. She starts next week. And our first unicorn candidate, excited to be continuing her career within the industry and starting soon after. Happy candidates. Happy Clients. Talk about win/win!Does your business keep an open mind to catch standout talent when it comes along? #rarekind #whynotboth #recruitment

nib Group & Camplify Holdings Limited. Two powerhouse businesses, local Newcastle success stories, with two impressive leaders steering their respective ships.Last night we had the opportunity to hear from both Mark Fitzgibbon and Justin Hales, as part of the Leading Agenda Series, as they shared the story of their journey in leadership. The highs, the lows, their stories, and their learnings that brought them to where they are today. One of the commonalities between the two, and the ‘secrets’ to their organisations’ success - the people. As two heavily valued based companies, they both spoke passionately about the importance of the ‘right people on the bus’. The people in their organisations who live and breathe the values daily, and believe in what they’re doing.Through encouraging curiosity, they both enable their people to do what they do best. They’re empowered to ask questions, automate, and innovate. They listen to their people’s ideas. And ultimately, best service the customer at the end of it.Win/win.“People listen to us, when we listen to them”. Thanks Barr Planning and AUTHOR. Consulting for putting on the event and to Mark and Justin for sharing your stories 👏.How do you make sure you have the right people on the bus? #rarekind #successstories #leadership

Earlier this year, I had a client reach out to me for some help on a HR role they'd been struggling to fill. They'd tried to recruit themselves, but their new hire wasn't the right fit. We'd worked with them on a number of temp assignments in the past. They'd been on a growth journey the last few years. We knew where they were going. And how soon they wanted to get there. We knew their business. So when it came to this new perm recruit, we knew we had a hiring strategy covered. We sent across the proposal, and waited to hear. A few days later they called, they'd gone with another recruiter offering a lower fee. Inside, I was bummed - I already had candidates in mind for the role, and was excited to get cracking. We agreed to keep in touch anyway. Fast forward 6 weeks - the client called. They hadn't had a great experience with the other recruiter - and wanted to know if we'd match their proposed fee to win the job. With the long game in mind, we met in the middle, and got the ball rolling. Yesterday, our candidate started in the new role 👏🏻. I get it. Budgets can be tight. But be transparent with your recruiter on these constraints. If the mutual benefits are there, there's always room for negotiation. And if not more important, pick a recruiter who resonates with you and your brand. Who is there for the duration. Play the long game. P.S. Are you feeling the hiring struggle? Let's chat about how we can find the right fit for your team. #rarekind #recruitment #hiringstruggle

Another smashing Culture for Keepers event in the bag. And, our biggest one yet 🤯.This time around we were lucky enough to be joined by Leadership extraordinaire, Suzy Miller. With 13 years' experience in the leadership development game - it's safe to say we were in great hands when it came to yesterday’s session. Let's face it, leadership has changed. The way we led 20 years ago is so vastly different to how we lead now. But how do we as leaders keep up with the change? And, just as importantly, how do we unlock leadership potential within our teams, and set our organisations up for long term success?Yesterday’s discussion was full of so many key takeaways - covering all things growth mindset, performance culture, leveraging diversity, and using your influence as a leader - Suzy did not disappoint 👏🏻.Thanks again to everyone who stopped by to make it such a success. And for Modus Brewing for hosting us in your incredible space again. Looking forward to the next one!Missed out and want to be apart of our next Culture for Keepers event? Monday morning, you get a call from your client, they've had a sudden resignation in their HR team and need some hands-on deck, stat. You've worked with this client before, you know their business inside and out - and lucky for you, you've got the perfect candidate in mind. They interview, and no shock, the client loves them. They're on board and ready to dive right in. 👏But here's the twist. Your client wants to make sure they're making the right decision, and asks to see comparisons.Deep down you know that this candidate is the cream of the crop. You're confident; you know the market inside out. But the client insists. As the client, what's your next move? Do you wait for those comparisons to be absolutely sure, but risk losing 'the one' in the process? 🤷♀️Or do you take the leap, trust your gut (and your recruiter), and make the move to land the candidate?Sometimes, taking that leap of faith can lead to extraordinary results.#rarekind #taketheleap #hr

Last week kicked off our annual review process here at Rarekind. My first year doing these solo as a manager, you'd be right to assume I had some nerves heading into them. But what has made these nerves quite minimal, is that 12 months ago when I first moved into my new position, we introduced regular one on one's with the team - jokingly named 'tea with tulls' ☕.An opportunity to have their say, no holes barred, raise any potential issues, or make any suggested changes to how we do things in our team - these monthly catch-ups have been invaluable to my transition as a leader, but also to the teams' adjustment to having a new leader. And now, in our annual reviews, there's no real surprises. We've kept these meetings fairly relaxed, sometimes over coffee, or a walk around honeysuckle to get some fresh air.But regardless of the location, it's their time, for one hour, to have the floor. If you don't already, take this as a sign to schedule regular one-on-ones with your team. Your future self will thank you for it (and so will your team). I'd be keen to hear of any other initiatives you've introduced with your team! Bonus points for anyone who can come up with a more exciting name for 'annual reviews' 🤦♀️.#rarekind #annualreviews #spillthetea

Ever feel like you're the worst at taking your own advice?I was chatting with a candidate earlier this week who had just wrapped up in his interview for a HR Manager role we were working on.When I asked him how it went, he wasn't sure, he said "I've either nailed it, or I've completely tanked it".We went on to dissect the interview further, their questions, his answers, if he felt comfortable, and if he felt he fully understood the requirements of the role."It's funny you know, I've spent the last 15 years of my professional career interviewing candidates for jobs. But when it came to sitting on the other side of the table, I couldn't take my own advice - you're here for a reason, take a deep breath, and SLOW DOWN".I caught up with the client later that day - they loved him.He was a great culture fit, showed his skillset for the role perfectly, but just one main feedback point - "he spoke quite quickly, we couldn't keep up!".Oops 🤦♀️ Do you take your own advice?#rarekind #hr #interviewtips
